We really have been busy little bees and we've got some BIG changes coming! Here are just some of the things we’ve been up to, and some new things coming to the Nuclear Fusion Network this spring…
Our Team Continues to Grow Since its birth (and before, honestly) the spirit of Nuclear Fusion has had a truly mystical knack of drawing to itself the perfect people at the perfect time. Now in addition to the original four founders, we've added six dope-ass moderators, four administrative wizards, two super-talented consultants, one business coach, two incredible educators, an internet safety expert, and our first angel lender! Oh, and did we mention that the entire team is queer and neurodivergent? Yeah, we're constantly blown away by the sheer volume of talent, passion, and awesomeness dedicated to this project! Check out the team page here to see the diversity of people and talent. All Plans Are Becoming All-Access Rather than continue to uphold the hierarchy and implicit classicism in having a tiered offerings model, we're making all of our plans all-access, and moving to an entirely Mutual Aid, Pay What You Can Afford model. That means that any member will be able to join and participate in any space and any event, regardless of their membership plan. For more on how we reached this decision, keep reading below for the Juicy Backstory. We're Launching a FREE Membership Plan! In addition to making all of our paid memberships all-access, we're also launching a FREE membership plan for those who can't afford a paid membership. And of course the free plan is also going to be all-access! This will mean every member will need to pay what they can afford, so that we can give and receive equitably, build a culture of mutual aid, and actually pay the bills that keeps the Network running :) Free doesn't mean a "free-for-all" We just want to add the caveat that just because we're opening a "Free for anyone" tier, it does not mean just anyone can join the network. Sure, anyone can request to join, but we will still have the same approval process we currently follow for all new requests. As a refresher, or in case you didn't know, our approval process is super straightforward and breaks down into steps:
We're Giving the Membership plans a Makeover In the midst of preparing to overhaul our plans, we realized something else needed overhauling: the brand colors, and plan names! Here's a quick look at the plan changes coming:
Actually the Whole Network (Plus Our Website) is Getting a Makeover Yeah, once we re-colored the plans and saw how gooood they looked, we knew our new brand palette would need to be implemented across our whole ecosystem. So over the next few months we'll be updating colors, typefaces, images, even the names of some spaces. in short: we're sprucing up the joint 😎 Plus we're going to be rolling out some new spaces in the Network, so stay tuned for that too! And now, the Juicy Backstory (because #infodumps are *chef's kiss*) As you may (or may not know) a goodly portion of our Fusionists actually started as backers of our Kickstarter and GoFundMe, some dating as far back as 2023! And one of the perks of being an early adopter and believing in the dream is lifetime membership to the network, at no additional cost. In fact our very first launch of the Network last July was exclusively to our backers, and they have continued to be the heart and soul of the network <3 Then in September we launched paid tiers to the public, opening our doors "as-is" and opening ourselves to expansion in so many ways. And my oh my did we grow—more than doubling our initial members! But as word about our Network spread, alongside the enthusiasm and hype, we also received copious feedback that even our lowest tier ($1.99) was too much of a financial burden for some. Many said we should consider offering a Free tier to the public, so those most in need of mutual aid can truly access and participate in it. At first, we kicked around the idea of a stripped-down free tier; a "just the basics" plan, if you will. After all, a freemium model is industry standard for Software as a Service platforms. It's expected and considered "good business" to establish a hierarchy in your SaaS offerings, with the lowest cost or free tiers receiving only the essentials, and the benefits increasing congruently with your subscription prices. You get what you pay for, right? And never give away for free what someone will pay for. Hustle, always be closing, etc. Then it dawned on us: that's capitalist bullshit. And truly not in alignment with who we are and the world we want to live in. Because we are here to dismantle hierarchies, to overturn the status quo, to say "we're not doing things the way they've always been done, and if you don't like it, you can kiss a duck." (Okay, maybe just one of us says that on the reg—but you get the idea). We are committed to shaking things up and ruffling feathers in every other way; so why structure our membership options in a classically capitalist way? Why continue to uphold the idea that those who have more, deserve more? So we said "Fuck it, let's make a Free plan, and let's give 'em everything! ... and why stop there, heck—let's make all our plans full-access!" And that's exactly what we're doing.
